Cultural Association Pera Melana
Our community exists unofficially since 1970 and officially since 1980. The activities of our community range from preservation and dissemination of local traditions from dance, to tsakonian dialect to textiles. We are also responsible for the curation and presentation of a collection with objects of local folklore. We often organize teaching of Tsakonian dances or language, speeches of medical content, and beekeeping conferences.
In our region, there is a long tradition of chiropractors, midwives and medical doctors. Mountain Parnonas is well known for its rich plant biodiversity with more than 1,000 plant species and subspecies. For example, we collect and use sage in order to produce a stomach pain healing drink and wild herbs in order to help the body bring out kidney stones.
